Pittsburgh, PA
ACTOR · DIRECTOR · PRODUCER · PLAYWRIGHT · CHILDREN'S AUTHOR · TEACHING ARTIST
A Pittsburgh-based multidisciplinary artist working across stage, screen, and the page — directing and producing new work for the theatre, acting in film and regional productions, and writing stories for young readers, most notably the Rhea the Great Detective series.
About
Dominique Briggs Jackson builds a career the way she builds a season — with range. As an actor, she's appeared on screen in projects like Happiest Season and Southpaw, and on Pittsburgh's leading stages with companies including Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company, Pittsburgh Public Theater, New Horizon Theater, and Front Porch Theatricals.
As a director and producer, she has led productions such as Birthday at Tiffany's at New Hazlett Theater and Twelfth Night (Public Works) at Pittsburgh Public Theater, and currently serves as Associate Producer with DEMASKUS Theater Collective, helping shape multi-show seasons from concept through opening night.
Her writing life centers the Rhea the Great Detective children's book series — inspired by her own daughter — which has grown from a picture book into a stage adaptation, an immersive museum experience, and now a podcast in development. She also develops original work for the stage, including a new play set backstage in an actors' waiting room.
Off stage, she brings the same producer's instincts to arts administration and program leadership, with a background spanning the University of Pittsburgh and BNY Mellon, a B.S. from the University of Michigan, and dual master's degrees in Business Administration and Health Information Systems from Duquesne University.
On Screen & On Stage
Behind the Table
Currently serves as Associate Producer with DEMASKUS Theater Collective, working across multi-production seasons — from new play development and casting through fundraising, community partnerships, and opening night. She also serves as Artistic Associate and Program Strategist with New Hazlett Theater, a current role focused on producing new works and the theater's in-house theatrical productions.
On the Page
Also currently developing an original play set in an actors' waiting room, and adapting the Rhea the Great Detective world for podcast — with a pilot episode produced in partnership with DEMASKUS Theater Collective.
Children's Author
Rhea is a young African American girl who attends a daycare center that doubles as her own detective agency. Alongside her friends, she solves mysteries using clues that teach shapes, colors, and numbers — while learning to embrace her authentic self and celebrate the differences of others. The series grew out of Dominique's search for early-reader books where her own daughter could see herself represented.
The first book, Rhea the Great Detective and the Case of the Missing Mrs. Bearington, has since expanded into a short film pilot with DEMASKUS Theater Collective and an immersive theatrical experience at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, and can be found in libraries throughout Pittsburgh. A podcast adaptation — with a path toward an animated series — is currently in development.
In the Classroom & Community
Dominique's education work sits at the intersection of storytelling and early-childhood learning — bringing theatre, literacy, and imaginative play into classrooms, museums, and community programs across Pittsburgh.
The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh — developing interactive, arts-based learning experiences for young audiences.
Pittsburgh Public Schools — bringing the Rhea the Great Detective world into early-literacy programming.
New Hazlett Theater & Children's Museum of Pittsburgh — a theatrical adaptation of Rhea the Great Detective introducing young audiences to live performance.
Program leadership experience at the University of Pittsburgh and BNY Mellon, paired with an ongoing interest in adjunct and visiting-artist teaching in theater and musical theatre.
